What is call recording in Google Ads?
The call recording feature in Google ads is available in the Google ads user interface. These are call recording that you can access but cannot download. You can see these Google ads call recordings in the interface.
So where do you use the Google ads call recordings? You can use these to listen to the quality of calls to check whether or not your ad campaigns are targeted to the right audience.
There are so many times we diagnosed accounts where we see that the calls are coming in, the conversions are coming in, and it looks like a successful campaign, but when we listen to the calls, we know right away if it is good traffic or bad traffic. Like for example, we had one account where it was a property management company and we kept getting tenants calling about renting apartments. So we kept changing the ad content to suit the message to our target audience. By listening to the recorded calls, you will have an idea who was calling and who you will need to weed out and make some changes from there.
Ways to access your Google ads recording (and how to troubleshoot)
When you’re accessing the call report, you may encounter some technical problems and errors along the way. Here are the common problems and how you can access the recording:
Unsupported number
This indicates that it’s a phone number used in the ad that triggered the call. You are receiving this error, not because of geographic restrictions but this feature is only available for US numbers. So if you’ve got an overseas number that is calling in, you cannot access the recording as the Google ads call recording feature is available for the US only.
To resolve this issue, I recommend a Call Rail for call tracking and analytics.
Unverified URL
This indicates the domain used in the ad led to the call, which has not been verified. What you need to do is go through the steps of linking your Google Search Console. Go to your Google Search Console account and link your Google ads call recording there. The proper steps here.
How to set up Google ads call recording
Once you have connected your Google Search Console account to the Google call recording feature, do not forget to use your conversion tracking tag. Always use the tag manager as it is easier for you to track everything.
Go to Google ads account settings, click call reporting, and make sure that you turn on your call reporting. Once you have that turned on, go to the report section. In the report section, scroll down the page until the extensions section.
From the extensions, go to call details, to see all your calls and you will be able to have a play button where you can play the recorded calls.
Conclusion
The Google ads call recording is easy to set up. Just follow the steps I have showed you here. You can use the Google ads call recording to track calls that can help you improve your ads campaign and conversions.
