The success of every business depends on your customer’s satisfaction. This is not something new. However, you are missing out a lot when you do not know how to turn those happy customers into a marketing tool.
Yes, customers’ testimonials are considered to be one of the most powerful tools that you can utilize across all your marketing channels.
This article, How To Create A Testimonial Video, we will discuss how you can create a testimonial video, the tools that you need to start filming a testimonial video, and how to properly market your testimonial videos. Plus, I have also created a Q&A template that you can download and use to gather customer’s testimonials.
How to gather testimonials
The easiest way to get testimonials is to get them from your happiest customers. To start with this, always provide a feedback form for your customers to fill in. This way, you can read all the customers’ experiences with your product or service.
You can sort the positive feedback and directly confront the customers who gave you good feedback for a video testimonial.
You may face the challenge of making the customer agree with you to film them as not everyone is comfortable in front of the video. If this is the case, let your customers know that it will only take them a minute or two to get their answers filmed. And to make them feel more at ease, provide them your premade questionnaires so they can think and write their answers ahead of time.

Equipment to use for your testimonial video
Camera
When you hear “video testimonial for business”, you expect that you need those pricey professional video cameras to produce video testimonials.
You’ll be surprised that you do not need this type of camera. You can start with a good mobile phone. A recent model phone with a very good camera feature is all you need to get started filming your customers’ testimonials.
Tip when filming:
When using your mobile phone, check your phone settings and make sure that you set the video resolution to HD, with a minimum of 1280 x 720 and at least with 30 FPS (frames per second). You should also film in landscape mode and not in portrait mode to get a good framing.
Tripod
Get a portable, lightweight tripod. You do not need those fancy ones, just a good tripod to hold your camera phone is good enough. You can check out this lightweight and portable tripod that I use for filming videos that is under $50:

Tip when filming:
Do not hold the camera with your hands. You are filming a testimonial video so use a good tripod to get proper and steady framing.
Lighting equipment
Natural lights are good enough to film your video. But if you have not enough natural light, you can use some lighting equipment. You can check out this lighting for video in Amazon, which is just under $50:

Tip when filming:
When using the natural light, place the camera, and tripod to where the light is. Your customer should face the light, where the camera and tripod are also located. This technique will give you good lighting, which is as good as the studio lights.
Audio equipment
Do not forget your audio when you are filming. You can improve your audio quality by getting a lapel mic. Buy a lapel mic that is 16 feet long so you can film the video with a good distance from the camera.

Also, make sure that you are buying a lapel mic with the right audio jack. Get the audio jack with three lines as shown below:
This kind of audio jack can transmit the audio to your phone. If you have the two lines, you need to get an adapter to be able to transmit the audio to your phone.
Tip when filming:
It is always important to film with a mic on. Never film a video without a make since this will give you bad audio and your testimonial video would be just a disaster.
Best questions to ask for a customer testimonial
Always ask open-ended questions. These are the type of questions that will give you the right answers for your testimonial video.
Open-ended questions require long answers. What you need to avoid is the counterpart of it, which are the close-ended questions or questions that only provides a yes or no answer. You can see the difference between these two types of questions below:
Close-ended question format: Would you recommend us to your family and friends?
Answer: Yes
Open-ended question format: What would you say to your family and friends about us?
Answer: I would recommend your services. My experience with your company is top-notch and you went beyond more than I expected.
See the difference? Open-ended questions will give you great answers that you can use for your testimonial videos. When interviewing your customers, just provide them your questions beforehand and let them think and write their answers on the Q&A sheet that you have provided for them.
You can send the customers the Q&A sheet before the scheduled filming so they can prepare. I am sharing you the link to the the pre-made questions that I am using for my customers. Download the template below to gather customers’ answers for your testimonial video:
Marketing your testimonial video
Once you are done filming and editing your video, you can easily upload this on your company’s YouTube channel to gather views. YouTube is a great video platform where you can share anything, including your testimonial video. Why YouTube? Because this is Google for videos! Everyone is using YouTube and you can gather views and traffic from this platform.
Once your video is up on YouTube, you may also want to embed the video on your website. This will give your site added value. Potential customers who are browsing your website can immediately watch the testimonial videos, which helps in their purchasing decision.
Additionally, make sure that you also share your video on all your social media channels for extra exposure. Remember to optimize your video for the right keywords so customers can easily find your business.
