When you’re selling your services, you should have a different strategy for selling a product. This is because selling something tangible is simpler since people can see what it is about. How do you sell services to customers then? Here are the 5 marketing strategies you can try:
Marketing strategies when it comes to selling a service
1. Keyword Research
Marketing your services online starts with extensive keyword research. You need to spend time to understand your most important keywords and know how many people in your area are searching for your service.
When someone goes online and they type the name of your service or even the keyword for your service on Google search, this means that they are looking to buy. That said, solid keyword research is often the difference between success and failure with online advertising.
While dominating SEO is good, you should also experiment with Google Ads since the latter dominates the search today. More to that, About 63% of searches are done on a mobile phone.
For example, I’m looking for a “plumbing service in Rancho Cucamonga”. You can see below the top results for this search are all sponsored ads. Imaging if that is your business displaying on this results page, then you get a better placement and a huge advantage to the rest of the businesses offering the same service in your local area.
2. Negative Keywords
Since we are discussing keywords, let us discuss another keyword topic, which is the negative keywords. This is the next biggest mistake I see when it comes to marketing strategies for service businesses- they don’t keep a close eye on the negative keywords.
In Google Ads, any campaigns can bring in the wrong traffic and if you are not careful enough, your Google ads campaign that is generating leads continuously will start to go down because there are keywords allowed in your campaign that should not be included. This is what you call negative keywords.
Some examples of these keywords are “cheap” or “free”. If you are in a service business, you should not be offering any “free” services in the first place. Watch out for these negative keywords. These often pops-up with Google Ads from time to time.
3. Website
Get a fast loading website that is also optimized for mobile. If you sell a service, chances are, your customers and potential customers will be going to your website.
Website speed is very important since people have a short attention span when browsing online. Make sure your website is fast loading or you will lose those potential buyers.
Go to Google site speed check to check your website’s page speed performance and web performance. Make sure you run a speed check for desktop and mobile.
Another thing with website speed is when your site is slow, you may lose that visibility on search as page speed is one of the important elements in ranking for the search keyword you are targeting. I recommend that you check your website speed at least every six months.
Run the speed check on the Google tool. This is a free tool that you can use. Make sure that you got 90% and above performance, which is the passing score in the Google speed check tool.
4. Testimonials
People do not easily believe what you say unless you have happy customers saying your business is worth the time and money. That is how important testimonials are for business.
Every time we’ve put testimonial videos on our client’s site, we’ve always seen a huge increase in conversions.
If you’re selling services, you should have collected testimonials from your happy customers. But if you do not have one, make sure you read my tips here on how to gather and create testimonials.
Lack of testimonials is a silent deal killer. The reason I say that is because you never know why you didn’t get the deal. They just never call you after checking you out and they see no past reviews from customers.
5. Re-marketing
Re-marketing is where you can engage with your potential customers online. In online advertising, when someone visits your website or clicks on your ad, you can re-target this person by showing your ads to better communicate with the person. Through re-targeting, you may save any traffic and clicks on your website. Properly re targeting your visitors can land you a new client.
Final thoughts
I hope these 5 marketing strategies teach you something new to apply to your own marketing efforts. You need to make sure that you properly do your keyword research to target and filter only interested people to your business. Google Ads is an affordable platform, but only if you properly know how to target people through ads.
The tips I shared with you are very easy to apply and will definitely help you improve your conversion rates.
